Welcome to the Camp Kale Fall Cleanse!

Thanks for registering for the Camp Kale Fall Cleanse — I’m excited to have you on board!

Even though our official start date isn’t until October 4, there are a few things you can try now if you’re eager to get back on track after summer’s indulgences:

Sugar/Crack Cocaine — Start cutting back on refined sugar (if you eat sugar) — reduce amount and frequency. This includes weaning yourself off soda, diet soda, sweetened lattes, etc. And crack, too, of course.

Those snacks you love — Start cleaning up your kitchen — donate/remove candy, sweets, carb-y snacks like chips and crackers, etc. If you like to keep snack items on hand for kiddos and other family members, make sure you buy stuff you don’t like. That way, you won’t be tempted.

Carby stuff — Start weaning yourself off refined carbs: pasta, crackers, bread, Pirate’s Booty and, yes, that includes non-GMO rice chips and artisanal baguettes.

Smoothies! — Start enjoying smoothies for breakfast (if you’re not already).

The Booze — If you drink alcohol, limit to one 5-ounce glass of wine per night, or a cocktail made with 1 ounce of spirits, topped off with club soda — and/or skip on the weeknights. I know it seems silly, but use a liquid measuring cup or shot glass to prepare your beverages — this is a very small drink (i.e., the kind of drink you’d get if you ordered it on an airplane, in coach), and likely less than you’re used to. Less than I’m used to, anyway!

Salad Love — Try getting into a salad-for-lunch and/or salad-for-dinner routine. I find this works best when I add a cup of soup.

Making these adjustments should help you see some short-term improvements before we start the program in earnest.

I’ll be in touch as the program start date gets closer, and will have the Camp Kale Prep Guide to you by Friday, September 25. If you need some recipe ideas, check out the Camp Kale preview recipes (link below).

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions or topics/challenges you’d like me to address during the fall program. Email me anytime at  — I LOVE hearing from people!

I also invite you to join our private Facebook group for Camp Kale. I’m not posting much currently, but will start posting more as we get closer to October 4. You can find the group here — just click on “Join” to submit a request.

Welcome aboard!
